Frequently asked questions

Answers to the most common questions about motors, sensors and integrations.

Retrofit motors for valves

Can the wire-controlled retrofit motors (BVS, KFR) be operated with the Shelly system?
Yes, that's possible. You need a Shelly Plus 1 for this. The control cable is connected to the Shelly insert so app-based control works.
Can the wire-controlled retrofit motors (BVS, KFR) be operated within a KNX system?
Yes, that's possible. A blogger published a YouTube video demonstrating it.
What should be considered when installing the ball valve actuator?
Check the installation requirements for ball valves in our documentation before purchasing.
My shut-off valve is rusted. Can I still use the motor?
Both the ball valve actuator and the angle seat actuator rotate with about 8 Nm — roughly double the typical manual force (~4 Nm). Valves that have become hard to turn by hand can still be operated reliably.
Can the wire-controlled retrofit motors (BVS, KFR) be operated with Z-Wave?
Yes — via devices with potential-free switching contacts such as the Aeotec Nano Switch. This enables wireless Z-Wave control.
Can the motor be operated via voice assistants like Alexa?
Not directly, but for example via a Shelly Plus 1 paired with Alexa.
Can the motor be operated on batteries?
Currently only the KFR motors (KFRLWE01, KFRDRY02) can run on battery. Battery life depends on the response time setting: about 2 years at 20-second response, up to 10 years at one-hour response.

Sensors

Do pressure-sensor heads in contact with drinking water comply with the EU Drinking Water Directive?
The stainless-steel pressure sensor meets DIN 50930-6. The seal used requires KTW approval from DVGW.
What maximum pressure can the pressure sensors withstand?
The sensors measure in the range of 0 … 10 bar. The defined burst pressure is 150 % of the maximum, i.e. 15 bar.
