Aqua Clip

The pragmatic sensor for the retrofit case. Clamps onto the pipe, measures via temperature difference — and works even where ultrasound reaches its limits.

Aqua Clip

Also known as: Leak sensor · Thermal clamp · Non-invasive pipe sensor · Retrofit leak sensor · Water leak clamp

The Aqua Clip exploits a simple physical fact: flowing water carries heat — when the water stands still, pipe sections settle to similar temperatures. From two temperature points on the pipe, the flow can be inferred. Works on any pipe material, including composite and plastic pipes where ultrasound reaches its limits.

Installation is the simplest in the kit: clamp on the pipe, connect the cable, done. No pipe cuts, no critical alignment, no plumbing knowledge required. Aqua Clip works especially well as an add-on at hard-to-reach spots, or as an affordable starting point for a growing system.

Installation

The Aqua Clip mounts onto the pipe in one of two ways: a hinged quick-mount clamp that requires no tools and can be repositioned at any time — or the included cable-tie mount for a permanent, tamper-proof installation.

Aqua Clip mounted on the water pipe — quick-mount clamp or cable tie

Ideal placement is on the main line, about 20–40 cm from the water entry point. The integrated ambient temperature sensor should be facing into the room, not toward the wall.

Aqua Clip fits pipes with an outer diameter of 15–32 mm — for every common material: copper, steel, PEX, PE and others.

Where Aqua Clip shines — and where it doesn't

The thermal-difference method delivers a reliable yes/no answer on whether water is flowing — but only limited insight into how much. For precise consumption data, the Sonic Clamp is the better fit; for microleakages, the Monitor / Monitor Plus. Aqua Clip shines where the others can't reach — or where price and simplicity matter more than deep detail.

Frequently asked questions

What does the Aqua Clip measure?
It uses two temperature sensors on the pipe to detect flowing water (which carries heat) versus standing water — a non-invasive leak-sensor principle that works on any pipe material.
Do I need to cut the pipe to install Aqua Clip?
No. It clips directly onto the outside of the pipe with a hinged quick-mount clamp or a cable tie — no pipe cutting, no plumbing knowledge required.
Which pipe sizes and materials does Aqua Clip fit?
Outer diameter 15–32 mm on all common materials: copper, steel, PEX, PE and composite pipes.
Can Aqua Clip meter my water consumption?
Only roughly — it can tell you when water is flowing versus not. For precise consumption, use the Sonic Clamp (ultrasound) or Aqua-Scope Monitor Plus.
How does Aqua Clip compare to a flood sensor?
A flood sensor detects water on the floor after a leak has already happened; Aqua Clip detects abnormal flow inside the pipe before water appears.
